Attitude Check!

Candy Marcum Stonewall Behavioral Health
Summer is a good time to perform an Attitude Check-Up. Just as it is true that you are what you eat. It is equally true that you are what you think.
If you are thinking that speech you are about to give will be a roaring success, then it will. If, on the other hand, you are worried that you will forget part of your speech, then that will happen. We bring to us what we are thinking. Positive thoughts bring positive experiences. Negative thoughts bring negative experiences.
Every athlete learns to visualize that perfect swing, catch, throw, stroke or tackle prior to playing the game. The same is true in every activity in your life. If you will picture yourself being: happy, successful, in charge, listened to, followed, loved then chances are very high that picture will come true.
You are in charge of the thoughts and pictures in your mind. Purposefully, choose the positive things you want to happen in your life. Shut out the negative thoughts and pictures that come into your mind. You have the control to do this.
Below are 10 ways to bring positive experiences into your life.
10 Ways to Positively Impact Your Attitude:
a.. Stay in the present. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.
b.. Compare yourself to no one but yourself. There will always be someone smarter, richer, more beautiful. If you are going to compare I want you to win. Compare how you're doing with how you've done.
c.. Prepare a "Gratitude List". Put this list in a place that is easily reachable. Read it when you need a reminder of how good you've got it.
d.. Smile. You'd be surprised how lifting others spirits lifts your spirit too. A high tide raises all boats.
e.. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. What you'll find out is most things are "small stuff".
f.. Get out in nature. We are all a part of every living thing. We belong to the most amazing assortments of life. Take a deep breath of that clean, positive and living air.
g.. Bring positive people into your life. Some people believe there is a silver lining beneath every dark cloud. Some people believe there is a dark cloud beneath every silver lining. Hang out with the former.
h.. Volunteer. You'll find out that by giving of your time, energy and resources you will be rewarded ten fold.
i.. Find a Mentor. Ask someone you admire to share with you their secrets of living a successfully happy life. You'll be doing both of you a favor.
j.. Picture yourself at a time when you were successful. When you worry whether or not you will succeed, think about a time when you did. That memory will spur you on to reaching your goals.
